Stainless Steel 422 is a martensitic stainless steel that typically contains 12% chromium, 1% molybdenum, and 0.2% to 0.5% carbon. To increase its strength at high temperatures, additional elements such as tungsten and vanadium are added. At higher temperatures, the tubing shows good creep strength and outstanding resistance to oxidation. Its mechanical characteristics include hardness in the 250–320 HB range, yield strength of about 450 MPa, and tensile strength of about 620–850 MPa. Because of these qualities, SS 422 tubing is perfect for high-temperature applications requiring resistance to corrosion, wear, and thermal fatigue.
