SS 409L Tubing is composed primarily of iron with 10.5–11.75% chromium and low carbon content (≤0.03%), along with added titanium for stabilization. This composition improves resistance to intergranular corrosion and weld decay. The tubing offers tensile strength of around 380–450 MPa and a yield strength of approximately 170 MPa. It provides good formability, oxidation resistance, and moderate corrosion resistance in mild atmospheres. SS 409L retains strength at elevated temperatures and is non-hardenable by heat treatment, making it ideal for automotive exhaust and thermal equipment.
