It provides good strength and moderate resistance to corrosion once it has been hardened and tempered. Mechanical characteristics include a hardness range of up to 500 HB following heat treatment, a yield strength of roughly 450 MPa, and a tensile strength of 700–850 MPa. When annealed, SS 420 tubing has good ductility; however, it can be heat-treated to increase its mechanical strength, which makes it appropriate for applications requiring resistance to wear.
