AWS Class E630-16 electrodes consist mainly of chromium (15–17%), nickel (4–5%), copper (3–5%), and other elements such as columbium (niobium) and molybdenum in order to simulate the chemistry of 17-4 PH stainless steel. These electrodes produce welds of high tensile strength (normally in excess of 860 MPa) and good hardness following suitable heat treatment. Yield strength is more than 720 MPa, with good ductility and impact toughness. E630-16 can be used with both AC and DC power supplies and forms a solid, crack-free weld. The weld metal has good response to heat treatment, enabling it to equal the base metal’s strength and hardness.
