AWS Class E347-16 electrodes are a rutile-coated, AC/DC electrode consisting mainly of chromium (18–21%), nickel (9–11%), and columbium (niobium), which holds back the intergranular corrosion of the weld deposit. This electrode has a good mechanical strength with tensile strength of approximately 580 MPa and yield strength of approximately 390 MPa. The weld metal shows good toughness and ductility with elongation generally greater than 30%. E347-16 electrodes retain strength and corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures and can be used for welding stainless steels such as 321 and 347 at applications where intergranular corrosion resistance is essential. They deposit smooth, porosity-free welds ideal for severe applications.
