Iron makes up the majority of stainless steel 316 valves, but important alloying elements like 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum improve corrosion resistance, particularly against chlorides. Tensile strength of approximately 515 MPa, yield strength of 205 MPa, and elongation of 40% in 50 mm are typical mechanical characteristics of SS 316.
