Stainless Steel 420 Fasteners contain 12–14% chromium and a maximum of 0.15% carbon, which provides them with high hardness and average resistance against corrosion. These fasteners attain a tensile strength of approximately 700 MPa and Rockwell hardness up to 50–55 HRC upon heat treatment. Their martensitic microstructure offers good wear and abrasion resistance with good machinability. While less corrosion-resistant than austenitic grades, SS 420 is reliable in mild atmospheres.
